Admission Time: Time to take decision wisely

ICSE and CBSE results are out and our students came with flying colours. With the celebration came another burden which is about the colleges where they will be going for further studies.

Not a big problem for all those who were able to crack CET or AIEEE or WB-JELAT or some other entrance examinations but for all those who weren't successful at this exams or made up their mind to opt engineering at the last moment, this is a high time to do some research about colleges.

If you have just passed class X and you dream of becoming an engineer then you don't need to think twice before getting a hand on the admission form for CCCT, Chisopani or ATTC, Bardang. This two polytechnic college of Sikkim are highly famed for the quality education and prominent learning which gives you a strong base for engineering.

However if you are looking for B.Tech courses then you must know that on an average, almost 4 Lac students complete graduation in engineering each year in India whereas the same in US is around 70,000.

This data clearly shows that a large percentage of students are opting for Engineering courses nowadays. This may be because of the mentality where we grew up in. 'Engineering and Medical' are the two most common profession in India. So it is a great idea to opt for engineering only if you are solely interested in the field.

Since this is the season of admission, you may even come across people and various sites and even organisations who claim to get you admitted in good institute at a very nominal fee. Decide whether you would like to save some amount and ruin your career or ruin some amount and make your career. In one word 'Take decision wisely'.

Because some people or sites are just a mediators who gets comission from the colleges if they get students admitted to their colleges. There are many colleges in India who provide on an average of 7,000-10,000 per students to the people who brings students to their colleges.

One thing is obvious that good colleges never have this type of schemes. So if we put our grey cell to work on this issue, then it is natural to get question on this legitimacy of those institutes.

At such an age, where most of the colleges demand a handsome donation [which I would call ghush] for admission, parents and students often look for colleges that doesn't ask for donations. And they get on the hands of this people who claims to get the students admitted to institutes at a nominal fee with no donations but do so in average to low ranking institutes.

So before you fill up the form of any institute with big dreams in your mind, just take your time to do some bit of research by yourself. Being an engineering student myself, and by my experience I can say that we shouldn't get fooled by the myth claims of 100% placement after graduation or when you see high class MNC's name appearing on their list of companies where students have been placed.

The photo gallery of the campus in their website with photoshop-touched images can surely make you believe that the college is one of the best college in India. Make sure that you visit the college, try and talk with some seniors, check the legitimacy of the institute and their approval and then decide.

We wish you luck for your future.
