A brace by Sonam Gyatso helped the hosts Tashi Namgyal Academy beat Daly College, Indore 2-0 to win the All India Inter Public Schools' Conference Soccer Tournament. Sonam scored his first goal in the 52nd minute of the match and the second in the 56th minute to seal the match in favour of Tashi Namgyal Academy yesterday.
The Speaker of Sikkim Legislative Assembly, K T Gyaltsen gave away the trophy to Tashi Namgyal Academy. Earlier Lawrence School of Sanawar thrashed Phoenix Public School 8-0 in the match for the third and fourth position. The winning and runners-up teams were also awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively Gyaltsen.
Sonam Gyatso, took home, both, the both Man of the Tournament and Man of the Final Match trophies. Japdev Gill of Lawrence School was adjudged the 'Best Goalkeeper' of the tournament, while his teammate Aman Juyal took the golden boots as the highest scorer with his 12 goals. The Most Promising Player of the tournament award was handed over to Quelan Fernandez of PhoenixPublic School.Modern School [New Delhi] was awarded the Fair Play Trophy along with Rs 5,000 in cash.
