A girl rescued from Cooch Behar

Selling of Nepali girls in different parts of our country is not new to us anymore. Though we hear about this kind of stuff daily but no one have been seen taking an effective step towards it. In a similar scenario, another girl was rescued on 29th of September by Hill Social Welfare Society from Cooch Behar. The Society led by Yuden Bhutia rescued Sunita Rai [changed name] belonging to Bermiok and brought her back to Kalimpong successfully.

According to the source, Sunita had been working for some years as a housemaid at Gangtok. While working there, she met a resident of Cooch Behar named Krishnakant Burman who married her and took her to Cooch Behar. Some days after the marriage, the real face of Krishna started turning out. He started giving physical and mental tortures to Sunita. Sunita still blamed her faith and stayed numb for some days. But when Krishna started asking for money as dowry to the family of Sunita and even threatened to kill her, she could take no more. She understood the real intention of Krishna in marrying her. She called up the house in Gangtok where she used to work previously and narrated the whole story to them.

When Hill Social Welfare Society of Gangtok was informed about this story, investigation was started by this society. "When we came to know that Sunita was taken for money, we rescued her" said Yuden Bhutia. He also said that the documents of the marriage was all fraud. Nowadays, girls need to be careful and not ruin their lives he added.
