Sikkim University is located in a geo-politically strategic location at Gangtok(capital town), it has the vision of making the entire Eastern region a knowledge society and a custodian institution of development and environmental sustainability. The University is guided by Madame Pratibha Devisingh Patil, President of India as the Visitor; Prof. M S Swaminathan, the Father of Green Revolution in India as the Chancellor. The Executive and Academic Councils consist of cream of Indian academia and civil society. Its main campus will be located at a sprawling and magnificent Yangang village about 56 kms away from Gangtok town.Sikkim University, a central university established and fully funded by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament of India came into existence on 2 July 2007. Sikkim University has started its office at 6th Mile, Tadong, Gangtok with a small yet highly committed team. The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India and University Grants Commission are deeply committed to make this University truly an international institution.
