"Students of Sikkim to be the best citizen in the country" - CM

30the Nov 2010: "The teachers have conspicuous and vital role to perform in bringing about positive and constructive change in the education system of the state and appeal to the teachers to take their professions as a service to the state", said chief minister Pawan Chamling, chief guest of the program in a annual day function of Reshi Govt. Sec. School, West Sikkim on Tuesday.

Referring to the students, he said that the government has allocated 20% of the total budget on Human Resource Development with the objective to provide quality education and to make the students of Sikkim the best citizen in the country. Further, he advised the students to keep away from drugs which have been the major threat to our society. Chamling also appealed the youths to become responsible citizens by avoiding all the anti social elements whose only target is to destruct the peaceful ambience of the society. He further added that the intellectual tier of the society to support the government in all its noble endeavors in empowering the youth and the state.

He assured to grant amount to the tune of Rs.3 crore loans with 30% subsidy for 100 unemployed youths who seek to run chain hotels in Sikkim and amounting to Rs. 2 crore for road side chain organic shops. Furthermost, assuring all the demands placed before him by the school committee and locals, he also presented computer to the school.


1 Dec 2010: The Chief Minister attended the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Temi Senior Secondary School in South Sikkim. Focusing his attention on the education scenario of State, Chamling said that his government has given priority to education sector in the state. The aim of the state government is to provide quality education to all the students and make self-reliant, he said.

“Teachers should be serious about the education of their students or be ready for voluntary retirement. No government teachers are allowed to do private coaching classes”, said Chief Minister announcing free winter coaching camp for students appearing for their Class X and XII board examinations to be conducted by the State Government.

Chamling highlighted the total literacy campaign launched by the state government earlier this year with an aim to achieve total literacy State status. Senior citizens are also becoming literate at different Panchayat Bhavans under the Mission, he said. He also pointed out the recent India Today Award for Sikkim in primary education. The facilities of the state government for education have been well elevated in national level, he said.

He also presented a financial assistance of Rs 2 Lakhs to the Temi Senior Secondary School.
The school principal L Embaraj placed the school annual report. Various cultural programmes and felicitation of land donors, meritorious students and teachers and former school heads marked the celebrations.
