23 Feb, Namchi: Organized with the initiative of the students and the staffs of Namchi Government College a four days long cultural cum traditional festival ‘Blossom Fest 2011′ was inaugurated today here at Namchi Government College premises, Kamrang South Sikkim. The fest was scheduled to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Sikkim Dr. Pawan Kr. Chamling but following his busy schedule he became unable to attend the inaugural ceremony which was inaugurated by the Chairman Namchi Municipal Council B.T. Tamang while Vice Chairman N.H. Ansari was present as the special guest of the day.
Number of traditional cultural presentations and solo performances by the college students and the students from different schools of Namchi and surroundings marked the inaugural function of the fest. Addressing the inaugural session Chief Guest Mr. Tamang said that the initiative taken by the students of Namchi Government college will not only help in the conservation of respective culture and traditions but will also prepare a path for the coming generation to respect and follow the traditions. congratulating the organizing team of college he further said that in this generation where the traditional culture is vanishing day by day the initiative taken by the college will revive it once again and this was the right platform to promote our cultures and traditions, he added.
Later, the Chief Guest visited the stalls of different communities stalled with the initiative of the college students.
Besides the cultural presentations, the traditional stalls of different communities of the state stalled at the college premises is the main attraction of the fest while in the evening programme the audience were entertained with the performances of the local singing talents of Namchi.
The second day of the fest will witness the traditional fashion show, dance competition and cultural presentations while the famous band ‘Mantra’ will rock the stage on third day of the fest where Band competition among the top bands of the nation will be the another attraction. The final day programme has been kept as a surprise dhamaka by the organizing committee of which the programme has been secret by them.
The inaugural function of today was also attended by the teachers and the students of various schools of Namchi and its surrounding along with the Principal, staffs and the students of Namchi Government College.
