Stay away from negative people

Impressionable minds get influenced by adult behavior and the media. Peer pressure affects not only children and teenagers. It is also prevalent in adults. It shows a lack of self esteem when people do not have the courage to say “No, thank you,” and stay away from negative influences. What are the negative influences? Negative People!!

An eagles egg was placed in the next of a chicken. The egg hatched and the little eagle grew up thinking it was a chicken. The eagle did what the chickens did. It scratched in the dirt for seeds. It clucked and cackled. It never flew more than a few feet because that is what the chickens did. One day it saw an eagle flying gracefully and majestically in the open sky. He asked the chickens: “What is that beautiful bird?” the chickens replied, “That is an eagle. He is an outstanding bird, but you cannot fly like him because you are just a chicken.” So the eagle never gave it a second thought, believing that to be the truth because of his lack of vision. What a waste! He was born to win, but conditioned to lose.

The same thing is true for most people. The unfortunate part of life is as Oliver Wendall Holmes said, “Most people go to their graves with music still in them.” We don’t achieve excellence because of our own lack of vision. If you want to soar like an eagle, you have to learn the ways of an eagle.

If you associate yourself with givers, you become one. If you associate yourself with achievers, you become one. If you associate yourself with thinkers you will become one. If you associate yourself with negative people, you will become one.

Whenever people succeed in life, petty people will take cracks at them and try to pull them down. When you refuse to fight petty people you win. In martial arts, they teach that when someone takes a crack at you, instead of blocking, you should step away. Why? Blocking requires energy. Why not to use it more productively? Similarly, in order to fight petty people, you have to come down to their level. That is what they want, because now you are one of them. Don’t let negative people drag you down. Remember that a person’s character is not only judged by the company they keep but also by the company they avoid.

A Parent's Role in Education

Parents want their children to succeed in school, but a parent's role in that success must not be underestimated.n school as in life, consistent support from parents is crucial to sustaining a student's confidence and sense of achievement. understanding of these roles can help you help your child step up to the challenges of learning. Parents play four distinct roles in their child's education: cheerleader, friend, teacher and enforcer.

Be a Cheerleader
Real learning is not based on reward, but on the value your child places on the process itself. It's important to make something positive out of failure and to teach young learners this vital skill.

Be a Friend
Learning about math and reading isn't the only struggle your child faces in school. Maybe they're having problems with a teacher, a group of friends, or a bully on the playground. Sometimes what they really need is someone who is willing to hear what they're thinking--and that someone should be you.Listening respectfully to your child's concerns can be a major confidence booster all by itself. If you take your child seriously he's more likely to do the same for their education.

Be a Teacher
You can't just leave it all up to the teacher. Sure, it's their job, but even the best and brightest can be hard pressed to address the individual needs of every child, especially in a crowded classroom. Children still need personal attention, so it's the role of the parent to make sure they get it.

Be the Enforcer
Yes, sometimes you've go to be tough. But there's more to it than just discipline. Enforce in advance by helping your child set and keep schedules, reach goals and complete assignments on time. Be respectful. Don't expect your child to know how to use an assignment pad, or understand a class schedule. They won't get it right the first time.

"Nothing helps a child succeed like an involved parent. A little willingness from a child's parents can work wonders in the classroom"

Do they have a future??

It was earlier this year, that news agencies first began reporting about a worrisome phenomenon about beekeepers going to their hives and discovering that their bees had vanished. So, where has the bees gone??

Honeybee is the insect that is the most important for the human food chain. The reason being, that this species is the main pollinator of hundreds of types of food crops, nuts, flowers, vegetables and fruits. Hence, it was no surprise that many, including scientists, found the news reports of disappearing bees alarming. In fact, some of the articles even suggested that it could even result in widespread starvation. Some of them also quoted Albert Einstein, who is supposed to have said that if the world’s bees were to perish, humanity would too within four years, due to the absence of pollinators.

And same is the condition in Sikkim too. Cell phone has become a necessity of our life. We cant live without them and they cant exist without the towers. Towers are being implemented everywhere in Sikkim and it is a must for development. But aren't we compromising with the natural beauty in the name of development?? Sikkim, known to have good number of species of butterflies and bees, but do they have a future??

Whats the key to success

We believe 'education is the key to success. The increase of a person’s success directly relates to the length one spends in school. '

But there are people who become successful with less education. As athletes, musical artists, actors, and people such as Bill Gates have proven many times over. Part of success is being able to save money so that it will last beyond the length of one’s career. This is where many people lack skill. With an education, the person is able to manage money and save his/her earnings. Some very rich people have little education yet continue to succeed in life yet these are unique people. Not everyone is able to succeed like those people, most need education to guide and strengthen his/her natural abilities. Education provides a way for intelligent people to ascend above his/her peers and be successful. Education guides people toward success by accenting their traits of triumph.

A day of "O-Zone"

The ozone layer is a layer in Earth's atmosphere which contains relatively high concentrations of ozone (O3). This layer absorbs 97–99% of the sun's high frequency ultraviolet light, which is harmful to the life on earth. Ozone layer is mainly located in the lower portion of the stratosphere from approximately 13 km to 20 km above Earth, though the thickness varies seasonally and geographically.

The ozone layer can be depleted by free radical catalysts, including nitric oxide (NO), nitrous oxide (N2O), hydroxyl (OH), atomic chlorine (Cl), and atomic bromine (Br). While there are natural sources for all of these species, the concentrations of chlorine and bromine have increased markedly in recent years due to the release of large quantities of man-made organohalogen compounds, especially chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and bromofluorocarbons.

These highly stable compounds are capable of surviving the rise to the stratosphere, where Cl and Br radicals are liberated by the action of ultraviolet light. Each radical is then free to initiate and catalyze a chain reaction capable of breaking down over 100,000 ozone molecules. The breakdown of ozone in the stratosphere results in the ozone molecules being unable to absorb ultraviolet radiation. Consequently, unabsorbed and dangerous ultraviolet-B radiation is able to reach the Earth’s surface.Ozone levels, over the northern hemisphere, have been dropping by 4% per decade. Over approximately 5% of the Earth's surface, around the north and south poles, much larger (but seasonal) declines have been seen; these are the ozone holes.
In 2009, nitrous oxide (N2O) was the largest ozone-depleting substance emitted through human activities.

But unfortunately during the last 20 years the ozone layer over many world regions, was too ”thin”. As a result, the probability of skin cancer and eye cataracts increased, immunity weakened, agricultural crops and fishery catch decreased, etc.
Results of some researches state that the ozone layer thinning has practically stopped at the present moment, while others researchers say that the "ozone hole” is growing, i.e. in the year 2005 was almost a record big size.

"Now, its time to take action!!"

Attention!! Sikkim top in suicide rate.....

Sikkim has dislodged the usual top ranker Kerala as the State with the highest suicide rate in the country, according to Lakshmi Vijayakumar, regional representative of the World Health Organisation on suicide prevention and founder of SNEHA, a non-governmental organization. Addressing a Continuing Medical Education programme organized by the Department of Psychiatry, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute (CHRI), Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar said Sikkim, with a suicide rate of 48.2 per lakh of population, and Pondicherry, with a rate of 46.9 per lakh, presented a new and worrying trend of an escalation of suicides in smaller States. The suicide rate of different states are as follows:

Among States:

  1. Sikkim 48.2 / Lakh
  2. Pondicherry 46.9 / Lakh
  3. Andaman And Nicobar 34.5 / Lakh
  4. Tamil Nadu 21.7 / Lakh

Among Cities:

  1. Bangalore 42.1 / lakh
  2. Rajkot 31.5 / Lakh
  3. Jabalpur 24.4 / Lakh
  4. Vijayawada 23.2 / Lakh
  5. Chennai 20.4 / Lakh

“The data trends more or less perpetuate the status of southern States having relatively higher suicide rates than the northern States,” she said.
India has a suicide rate of 10.8 on a par with developed countries. If one mapped suicide trends from an economics standpoint, suicide rates seemed to be higher in transition economies, she said. Statistical analysis showed that while men were more prone to committing suicide than women, Asian women had the highest suicide rate irrespective of the development status of their country.

Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar felt that the Western proposition of a mental disorder as an underlying factor in a majority of suicide victims might not apply to India. Apart from depression and alcohol, almost 50 per cent of suicide victims in the country had no history of mental disturbance.
Noting that suicide ideation was a dynamic than a static state of mind, she stressed the importance of periodic assessment. The handful of interventions among the innumerable prevention strategies tried out had succeeded because of the ambivalence — the clash of will to live and will to end it all — of the affected individual, she pointed out.
Some of the effective measures included reducing access to methods and means of suicide, crisis support and helplines, drugs such as Lithium and Clozapine and enlightened media reporting on suicides, she said.
While the media can often be a double-edged sword in terms of suicide ideation, the media in Tamil Nadu had to be credited with being instrumental in the government's pioneering decision to allow students who fail Class X or XII examinations to re-appear without having to lose a year — a measure that led to a decline in examination failure-triggered suicides. Dr. Lakshmi Vijayakumar said a national suicide prevention strategy was imperative for India, where an estimated 5 million attempted suicides are carried out every year.

Cheer up your day

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary, because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

11th September 2001

The September 11 attacks (often referred to as September 11th or 9/11) were a series of coordinated suicide attacks by Al-Qaeda upon the United States on September 11, 2001. On that morning, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. The hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airliners into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the buildings. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. The hijackers crashed a third airliner into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C. The fourth plane crashed into a field near Shanksville in rural Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and flight crew attempted to retake control of the plane, which the hijackers had redirected toward Washington, D.C. There were no survivors from any of the flights.

In total 2,993 people, including the hijackers, died in the attacks. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 90 countries. In addition, the death of at least one person from lung disease was ruled by a medical examiner to be a result of exposure to dust from the World Trade Center’s collapse. The United States responded to the attacks by launching a “War on Terrorism”, invading Afghanistan to depose the Taliban, who had harbored al-Qaeda terrorists, and enacting the USA PATRIOT Act. Many other countries also strengthened their anti-terrorism legislation and expanded law enforcement powers. Some American stock exchanges stayed closed for the rest of the week following the attack, and posted enormous losses upon reopening, especially in the airline and insurance industries. The destruction of billions of dollars worth of office space caused serious damage to the economy of Lower Manhattan.

The damage to the Pentagon was cleared and repaired within a year, and the Pentagon Memorial was built on the site. The rebuilding process has started on the World Trade Center site. In 2006 a new office tower was completed on the site of 7 World Trade Center. The 1 World Trade Center is currently under construction at the site and at 1,776 ft (541 m) upon completion in 2011, will become one of the tallest buildings in North America. Three more towers were originally expected to be built between 2007 and 2012 on the site.

Where we are going or where we have been,
We all struggle everyone has battles.
Everyone at one time or another,
Feces the every moment,
Day, years, trails of existence
Such in life. Sometimes simple,
Sometimes complicated.
When we wake up with challenges,
We wake up with choices to either overcome
All that holds us down by going against
What opposes –or to continue sitting
Quietly while at the same time surrounding
Ourselves to fear and failure.
Life shifts, spins, and relocates as we do.
We all have the ability to switch
Our fear of failure into an energy to overcome any trial.
Just assure as we all have a spine......

40,000 for each student.... every year

“Make 2nd home environment in the schools; do not give such punishment to students which is forbidden by Right to Education Act; create good environment for physically challenged students”. Chief Minister Dr. Pawan Kr. Chamling gave this message to teachers in his address as chief guest at State level Teachers Day celebration held at Chintan Bhawan here on Sunday, September 5.

On the occasion, Chief Minister announced special awards for those teachers who will get awards at National and State level. “For next year”, he said, “those who get National and State award will be given additional Rs.2 lakh and Rs.1 lakh respectively”. He said "Sikkim will be the best State in education sector within ten years”, and urged for teachers’ concentration and contribution in this regard. Every teacher has to be trained within 2015, after which untrained teachers will have to retire, he said.

He reminded Panchayats of their responsibility to develop the schools. “Henceforth, we will have to focus on education as, according to me, we could not progress much in education sector in the past”, Chief Minister said. He appealed to all teachers to “produce human resource” and provide extra knowledge to student because it not enough to remain confined to school books only. “Government has been spending Rs.40.000 for each student every year so teachers has to be serious about it”, he said adding, “teachers have to be satisfied with their job otherwise they could not provide good education to students”.

Mr. R. Telang, Secretary of Human Resource Development Department said there are “40% untrained teachers in the State”. He said, “We have to change education delivery system and teachers should also change their orientation and increase their qualifications”. State Government has a plan to train around 310 teachers within this year, he said.

09 Things for High-School Students to Remember

Believe it or not, if you're in high school right now, you're at a great point in your life. You have your whole life in front of you. And now is a good time to start thinking about your future, to make some initial plans; just remember that plans can be easily changed. Remember too, that experts predict that the average person will change careers -- not just jobs -- more than five times in his or her lifetime. Now is the time to pursue your dreams!

And as you start thinking about one or more potential educational and career paths, here are 10 things to remember in the days ahead.

1. Take time to think about what you like to do; dream and imagine ideal careers. There are so many opportunities.Even if you are fairly sure of a career choice, take the time in high school to explore similar (or even vastly different) careers. Explore all your options.Answer the question, if you could have any job right now, what would it be -- and why? Don't let any barriers hold you back from finding the perfect career.

Example: Take the time for some career assessment and career exploration to expand your vision of potential majors and career paths.

2. Challenge yourself in high school, but don't overwhelm yourself. Do get the most out of high school as possible. When you can, take the tough and challenging schedule of classes;you need to stay focused on getting good grades, but don't overload your schedule.

Example: If you have a passion for something, such as photography, find a way to schedule a photography course along with your other tougher college-prep courses.

3. Work, volunteer, or otherwise gain some experience. As with your education, the more you are exposed to, the more options will open to you as you search out careers. There are even a growing number of internship opportunities for high-school students. And one other benefit if you are working in a paid position: spending money! Just remember that school and grades have to come first, so only work if you can balance your schedule, manage your time.

Example: If you're interested in a career in journalism, start writing for your school newspaper and look into a part-time job at a local newspaper.

4. Get as much education as you can. We are now a society in which many jobs and careers require additional education or training beyond high school. Some careers even require a graduate degree before you can work in the field. Take advantage of all educational opportunities that come your way, such as summer educational opportunities and educational trips abroad. If financially possible -- and there are many ways to help make it so -- attend college; college graduates make a much higher salary, on average, than high-school graduates.

Example: If you have a passion for science or math, instead of spending a summer goofing around the community pool, consider a summer math enrichment program or a space-agency program.

5. Talk with as many adults as possible about careers and colleges. The best way to find out about different careers is to ask people -- family, neighbors, friends, teachers, counselors -- to tell you about their career and college experiences. If you have not already, begin to build a network of adults who know you and are willing to assist you in your educational and career endeavors. And for careers that truly interest you, consider asking each person if you can shadow him/her at work. You could also consider conducting informational interviews at the same time as the shadowing, or as a less intrusive method of learning more about jobs and careers.

Example: If you have a passion for history and are considering a career as a college history professor, contact a local college and ask one or more of the history professors if you can shadow them or conduct an informational interview.

6. Remember that everyone must follow his or her own path in life. Don't spend too much time worrying what other people in your high school are doing -- or letting their opinions about your dreams and ambitions affect your decision. And don't worry if you leave high school with no clear career path -- that's partly what college is all about, discovering who you are and what you want to do in life. Everyone develops/matures/grows at their own pace, so don't feel the need to rush to make a decision now… but don't use the fact that you have plenty of time to make a decision as an excuse not to at least start learning and researching potential career options.

7. Don't let anyone control your dreams and ambitions. You will be horribly miserable at best if you let a parent or other family member dictate your major or your career. Students often feel pressure to follow in an adult family member's career path, especially if s/he is footing the bill for college, but the worst thing you can do is choose a career to please someone else.

8. Never stop learning… read, grow, and expand your mind. Don't pass-up opportunities to learn and experience new things. Many teachers offer or assign summer and supplemental reading lists -- look at these as opportunities for growth rather than a drag on your summer. The more you read, the more you'll know. It's a cliche, but knowledge is power.

9.Final Thoughts
High school is a real transition time for teens, as you move into adulthood and the more adult issues of work, careers, and college. It should be a time of growth as well as a time of challenge. Have fun, but get the best education you can so that you are positioned to take advantage of further educational opportunities… and no matter where you go after high school, never stop learning and growing.
