Abraham Lincoln's story of inspiration


Who haven't heard about Abraham Lincoln?
He was the 16th President of United State. He successfully led the country through its greatest internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union, ending slavery, and rededicating the nation to nationalism, equal rights, liberty and democracy.

His journey from childhood days to president was not as easy as we would think. His story of life is a great inspirational confidence story which shows that if you just keep moving towards your dream, you will eventually make it.

Abraham Lincoln overcame great setbacks and obstacles on his journey. Read below and think would we have the courage to continue if we were in his place?

  • Born in Feb 12 1809
  • His family was forced out of their home and he needed to work to support his family in 1816.
  • His mother passed away in 1818.
  • His sister died in 1828.
  • His business venture failed in 1831.
  • He ran for the state legislature and lost in 1832.
  • Same year he lost his job; he wanted to get in law school but couldn't get in.
  • In 1833 he borrowed some money from a friend to start a business. By the end of the year, he was bankrupt.
  • In 1834, he ran for the state legislature and luckily won.
  • In 1835, he was engaged but his fiancee died.
  • In 1836 he suffered from nervous breakdown and had to bed rest for 6 months.
  • The same year, he sought to become Speaker of the State Legislature. He was defeated.
  • In 1840, he sought to become Elector. He was defeated.
  • In 1842, he married Mary Todd. They had 4 boys but only one would live to maturity.
  • In 1843, he ran for congress and lost.
  • In 1848, he ran for re-election and again lost.
  • In 1850, his son Edward died.
  • In 1854, he ran for the Senate of the United states and lost.
  • In 1856, he sought the Vice Presidential nomination at a national convention. He got less than 100 votes.
  • In 1858, he ran for the Senate again and lost.
  • In 1860, he was elected as the President of the United States.
